These huge silver "earrings" were made in by the Miao people in Guizhou
Province, China. In the olden days, the Miao would melt down silver coins to
make their jewelry, since their provinces had almost no silver that could be
mined from the ground. But this resulted in many differing levels of purity,
since the silver contents of coins would vary from region to region. More than
50 years ago, their government began allocating silver to the Miao peoples to
show respect for their customs and traditions. The black metal stand is included.
